By volunteering as a SAFeR Responder

Ideally, we need a team of 16 or more to provide 24/7 cover in our local area.

Volunteers do not need to have prior experience of first aid or be from any particular walk of life. You will receive thorough training from the Ambulance Service before going out on call and you must be prepared to be checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. You must also have your own transport.

You will be provided with a mobile phone for SAFeR use only, together with appropriate clothing and a Full Emergency Kit.

If you think you could help by taking part in or organising a fund-raising event; please call Martin Leigh-Pollitt on 01903-812007 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

From either a coffee morning or a car boot sale to an annual staff fund-raising project, you can help.

For a list of forthcoming events, see the ‘Events’ section of this site.

If you could help by providing us with services like printing, photocopying, catering or anything else you think could be useful to us, we would really value your involvement.

Alternatively you might run a business and allow a member of your staff to attend incidents during working hours as a Responder, or you might like to sponsor us or advertise on this site.

We receive no funding from the government or any other establishment source, so to help us to carry on providing this vital service, each donation we get either from members of the public, local businesses or other organisations, means a lot.

Each complete kit for our Responders (including a defibrillator, oxygen meter and other equipment) costs £2,000. We also need money for fluorescent jackets, mobile phones and other items, together with funding for publicity and fund-raising events. Although our operating costs are minimal, we need to buy new equipment for each additional Responder and then build up a reserve fund to replace kits and uniforms due to wear and tear.

Trustees, Responders and everyone else give their services for free. No-one involved with the scheme receives any remuneration.

Gift Aid

We are a registered charity, number 118023 and this means we can claim tax back from the Inland Revenue for donations which are made within the Gift Aid scheme. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go further. So we only need £1,562.50 to be donated with Gift Aid to raise the £2,000 we need for each complete kit.

To send us a donation, please click below for a form to print and forward with your cheque made payable to ‘Steyning Area First Responders Trust’*. It would help us greatly if you could tick to say you would like to take part in Gift Aid.
